POSITION TITLE: Director of Business for Social Services

STATUS: REGULAR EXEMPT/ FULL-TIME

Scope of Position: The Salvation Army Seattle Social Services is seeking a highly experienced Director of Business to oversee the financial and administrative operations for TSA Seattle Social Services. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of social services and be able to develop and implement strategic plans to maximize our impact and optimize our resources.


This is a full-time position, and the Director of Business will report directly to the Director of the Seattle Social Services. The compensation package for this position includes a competitive salary and benefits package, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to ensure financial stability and growth of the organization while maintaining a focus on the mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Oversee the budgeting process and ensure that financial resources are allocated efficiently and effectively across all programs.
  • Provide financial oversight and analysis to the organization's leadership team to help inform decision-making processes.
  • Manage relationships with external stakeholders, including government agencies, funders, and community partners.
  • Identify and pursue new funding opportunities to support the organization's growth and sustainability.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, policies, and procedures related to finance, accounting, and operational management.
  • Implement effective performance metrics and reporting systems to measure the success of our programs and inform future planning.
  • Develop and maintain positive and productive relationships with staff members, volunteers, and other stakeholders within the organization.
  • Meet regularly with the Officer/Director of Seattle Social Services, Directors, and Managers to
    participate in setting priorities within each program and coordinate recommendations for
    repairs, remodeling, and replacement of facilities and equipment.
  • Regularly assess the performance of team members, including annual performance evaluations
    and use of Territorial human resources policies.
  • Represent The Salvation Army in community collaborative groups as assigned by the
    Officer/Director of Seattle Social Services.
  • Develop and implement budgets in coordination with the Finance Manager.
  • Coordinating with the Director of Maintenance and Operations to implement facility safety.
  • Assist the Director and Business Manager with all matters relating to Finance, including budgets,
    requisitions, proposals for purchase, property proposals and other matters needing the command Finance Council’s (CFC) approval. Be available to give answers about expenditures and other fiscal-related matters concerning the business aspects of the Seattle Social Services.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a senior management role within a non-profit, community engagement, or social services organization.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing strategic plans and driving organizational growth.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience managing staff members and leading teams in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and compliance requirements related to social services and non-profit organizations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers and reach overhead.
  • This position works at a site that may require mandatory vaccination of employee, without exemption, based on local governmental orders from the County and the City.

Health Insurance: Low bi-weekly premiums for employee-only coverage, Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area, Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside a Kaiser service area. Voluntary +1 and +family coverage at additional cost. Delta Dental DHMO and DPPO dental insurance are offered.

Life and Voluntary Options. An employer-paid life insurance policy covers employees. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.

Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at five years eligible service time. Plus, an employee-funded voluntary 403(b) option.

Parental Leave: The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.

Sick Leave: 12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months’ service time.

Paid Vacation:

  • Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions.
  • Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions.
  • Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months’ service time.

Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year
